Towering Cliffs, up in the north
Three sides surrounded by raging seas
A great dry desert in the west
And heavy rains in the east
This is our story.
On the banks of a massive river,
Stood an ancient, advanced society
For half a millenia they flourished,
Only to be wiped out mysteriously
This is our story
The Aryans came next, from a land beyond
And gave birth to the religion we preach
Great sages wrote on papyrus
The great epics that we read
This is our story.
The great Mauryans were next,
Conquering all of our country
Yet to practice non violence and happiness
Was truly a commendable feat
This is our story.
Skip a millenia ahead, which had reigned in chaos
Babur has conquered Delhi
A great time for tolerance and prosperity has begun
Only to end at the hands of the East India Company
This is our story.
The British have ruled with Tyranny
Yet all was not lost, India at last had unity
Many great protests had occurred
With the Englishmen punishing brutally
This is our story.
Our brave freedom fighters
Finally reached their desired destiny
Since after two centuries, our land was independent
It laid the path for the great rule of democracy
This is our story.
A constitution of rules was formed
All, were equal in this new country
Justice, freedom and equality had become basic rights
Republic Day was celebrated on 26th January 1950
This is our story.
